JO Association meet - the hammer throw  will be on Saturday (instead of Sunday); club assignments will be discussed at the March meeting; Association/Regional pass through criteria will be posted on our website/flyer (T & F Junior Nationals and T & F World Youth meets).

Patti Petesch mentioned that she will have a final answer at the end of the month regarding the replacement of the pole vault and high jump pits at Sealth so that they meet USATF’s tougher standards.

JO Regional meet - the Regional meet has been moved from July 3-6 to July 10-13 (hosted by Inland Northwest).  Location is TBA.

BACKGROUND CHECK:  Patti Petesch announced that the background checks will be mandatory in 2008 so that our Association can be considered “in good standing” with USATF.  This allows our Association to vote at the National convention.  The background checks will soon be on our website once everything’s been fine tuned.  There was a brief description about offering badges/lanyards for coaches who pass the background check.

FRED DEAN SCHOLARSHIP
Patty announced that the Fred Dean Scholarship committee is made up of herself, Asha Dean, Kwajalein Griffin and Fred’s business partner.  They will begin meeting soon and hope to have the scholarship available this year.

CROSS COUNTRY REVIEW
Darryl Genest reported that the turn-out at the Association meet was larger than expected.  And surprisingly the Young Men’s race was the largest race of the day.  Thank you to all the volunteer officials, administrators, course monitorcs, clubs, coaches, athletes and families for a successful meet!  Patti mentioned that she’ll see if we can get a “global crossing” communication system for next fall.

The Regional meet was held in Sandy, Oregon.  Despite the torrential down-pours, Oregon did a nice job.

The National meet was very well done.  The overall numbers were down at Nationals (2,000 instead of the usual 2,500) and that was probably due to the extreme cold!

The ‘08 cross country schedule is coming together.  Issaquah Gliders will see about hosting their race on Nov 1st;  Glacier High School may possibly do a youth race on Sept 27th; the JO Association is Nov 15th; Regionals (hosted by us) is Nov 22nd; Nationals (Virginia) is Dec 13th.  The ‘09 Regional meet will be hosted by Inland Northwest.

NEW BUSINESS
It’s officer election time!  We will be voting on the Youth PNA officers at our March meeting. Holly Genest and Kenny Emerick were selected to be on the selection committee.

The membership chair, Janell Kaufman, will be retiring her position at the end of 2008.

Nominees for the Youth Contributor of the Year:  Lloyd & Mary Pugh, Kwajalein Griffin, Vic Robertson, Joanne Hartman, Asha Dean, Doug Chandler and Drew Stevick.  The recipient will be announced at the annual banquet on February 8th.

NEXT MEETING:  Our next meeting is Tuesday, March 11th, 7pm at Seattle Parks ‘n Rec.  This is a full committee meeting in which we’ll be voting on the Youth PNA officers, finalizing the summer track season, going over rule changes, J.O. club assignments and addressing any unresolved issues.  We would like all the teams to send at least one representative to the meeting.

June -  full committee meeting/finalizing J.O. meet
