Team Entry/Declaration Deadlines
To enter a team in the USA Cross Country Championships, Coaches/Managers
must:
* Submit a final team declaration no later than 6:00pm, February 12, 1999. Prior to 6:00pm Thursday, February 11, 1999, declarations may be faxed to 206-433-8868. After this time, declarations must be submitted in person at the Meet Headquarters packet pickup. If a declaration needs to be changed for Sunday's races, it must be submitted in writing no later than 5:00 pm, February 13 to either the women's referee, Anne Timmons, or to the men's referee, Bill Roe.
Packet Pickup
Packets may be picked up at the meet headquarters, Days Inn Tacoma, from
1:00pm until 9:00pm on Friday, February 12 and at the course from 9:00 am
to 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 13 and 8:45am to 11:15am on Sunday,
February 14. Athletes should be prepared to show their USATF card in order
to pick up their packets.
Qualifications for Each Race
Junior athletes must be USA citizens or eligible to represent the USA in
international competition, current USATF members, and born between
January 1, 1980, and February 14, 1985. In other words, junior athletes
may not turn 20 during 1999. There are no performance standards to
participate.
Senior athletes must be USA citizens or eligible to represent the USA in international competition, and current USATF members. Males must be born on or before February 14, 1983, while females must be born on or before February 14, 1985. There are no performance standards to participate.
Masters athletes must be current USATF members and born on or before February 13, 1959. There are no performance standards to participate.
World Cross Country Qualifying
The first six finishers in each of the following events who meet the
above age criteria will select themselves to represent the United States at
the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Belfast, Northern Ireland
on March 27-28 in that event:
USATF Membership
All competitors must be current USATF members to participate. Do not
send in your entry form unless you note your USATF membership number or
enclose a completed a membership
application with the appropriate fee. Competitors should be prepared to show their USATF card in order to pick up their packet.
Drug Testing
Junior and senior athletes who participate in this competition will be
subject to formal doping controls in accordance with IAAF rules.
Athletes finishing in world championships qualifying places as well as
athletes chosen at random will be tested. Athletes found positive for
banned substances will be disqualified from this event and may face
further punitive action such as removal from the USA World Cross Country
Team.
Athletes who participate in the championships must agree to be tested upon request, or face the same penalities as if they tested positive. Some prescrition, herbal, and over-the-counter medications and supplements contain banned substances.
